Jim Daus Hjernøe is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music Aalborg (RAMA) in Denmark. He heads the RAMA Vocal Centre, known as a leading European center for jazz/pop choir leadership, and collaborates with teachers, students, and partners worldwide. Since 2002, his focus has been on improvisational vocal art within the innovative Vocal Painting (VOPA) technique, a revolutionary concept within the Total Vocal (TIC) framework. The TIC methodology stems from Jim's musical philosophy: educating vocal leaders to share initiative, responsibility, co-creation, and inspiration with singers in the musical process.

Sing Along with VOPA by Jim Daus Hjernøe

appetizer workshop, 75 minutes

VOPA (Vocal Painting) is a powerful tool for live vocal improvisation, using hand signals to guide singers in creating music together on the spot. Developed by Professor Jim Daus Hjernøe from Denmark, this interactive system allows conductors and singers to shape music in real time, adding harmonies, changing rhythm or key and creating entirely new soundscapes. The signals are easy to follow, making it fun and accessible for everyone to join in. Rooted in the Soundpainting method, VOPA has become a key part of The Intelligent Choir approach. Come sing along and experience the magic of instant musical creation. No experience needed!
